Easter Day

Chickadee has kicked it up a notch with being very hyper...she's definitely getting older.  She is getting more into the phase of not listening and not doing what you ask her to do, but honestly, she's a good kid, so this has just really started to get a little more challenging.  So we used the whole, if you don't listen to us, the Easter Bunny won't come visit you.  We did it, yes.  We were sooo ready for her to go to bed the night before Easter and she was just all over the place.  Well, it worked and after the normal hour of waiting for her to fall asleep, I snuck out of her room and loaded her basket up for her the next morning...
She was so excited the next morning and we reminded her of how she had listened to us and got this whole basket of goodies from the Easter bunny ;)  She dug right in...
She was so excited with all of the non-candy stuff...she couldn't decide which to pick next...

Momma a/k/a the Easter bunny did good.  Although, I don't have the time to shop like I used to, and I love to find fun things.  But I had to just pick up the majority at one store...
Then we all got ready and headed out to spend time with Joey and Wendy and their family and friends.  And, of course, we were every excited to get to see Merrin again...  They were so cute together...
Emma loved the Easter egg hunt.  I was busy taking pictures but I heard that she was a go getter in getting them ;)
How cute all the kids were running around getting the eggs...
 They were adorable...
And then you have to check out what you got!
Merrin digging in to what's inside...
 Now to open the candy...
It was all fun, but I did hear that Merrin got the golden egg, but 'shared' with Emma.  Usually Emma is more interested in the candy, so she surprised us with getting into finding the eggs more than what was inside...
Prizes were handed out for finding the most eggs.  Here's the winner of the older kids' category and Emma won for her age category.  She was sooo excited!
Art time.  Joey's Mom had a cool idea for all of the kids to mark on these vintage ceiling tiles...
It's a good thing we all like each other...even though Dennis is treading in LSU territory...this was Joey's tile he made ;)
Bebe (not sure if I spelled it right) said she wasn't creative and couldn't do anything...ha...she did a beautiful tile...
Emma was loving having Joey by her as she colors...
 the 'girls'  so sweet...
It was hot, but a beautiful day...it was so good to hang out...
 on the porch...

Got a few family pics of Wendy and Joey's family...just a couple here...this one with a vintage effect...
and this one with a black and white effect...unfortunately...little chickadee wanted to get in the picture...go figure...she is in the background with Dennis' arm.  Beautiful family...
 more hanging out...on the swing...
 good times with new friends...
We were so happy to meet so many wonderful family and friends.  Thank you Noreen for the beautiful comment.  It was so nice to meet you.  It was really a wonderful day...

Easter and Earth Day Celebrations at School

The director of Emma's school had seen some of my pictures on Facebook and asked me to take pictures at the Easter and Earth day celebrations.  I didn't think anything of it, but the sooner it came to the date, I started to get very nervous.  I started thinking about the time of day and how bright the sun was going to be...the worst kind of lighting.  I decided I would use my external flash and diffuser or at least have it in case shadows were really bad.  I am still not completely understanding how best to use the flash and had some problems...even though I didn't use the exposure I wanted for more creativity, I knew enough about exposure to get the most important thing, capturing the day and the moments and the sweet faces on these kids...
Emma and her class were so excited when they saw the ponies pull up.  My mind was working overtime with anxiety as to how to get these pictures.  So many things going on in my mind about exposure and composition and what is it going to be like.  I did the best I could.  There wasn't that perfect background for every picture, there were two ponies going at the same time, and it was HOT.  Between my nerves and the heat, the sweat was pouring...
I think one of my most favorite shots is the one above on the the bottom right with the two boys.  Remember when I had to stay at the school for 2 and a half months before leaving Emma?  Well, those older kids would say I was one of the teachers!  I guess they saw me so much and I would interact with them.  I just love that photo of these boys.  The one of the left is a rascal and has a matter of fact personality, and both are as sweet as can be.  Just love them!

I'm so thankful Peggy asked me to do this.  It gives me the practice under pressure but without the pressure of someone paying and expecting my work to be to their liking.  I had to remember to take the pictures as I would normally, my style, my view even if I didn't always get the most beautiful composition.  The more I do things like this, I can learn to better relax and just enjoy taking the pictures and being with the people...and having the day and the moments to share and remember with them after...

Making and Decorating Easter Cookies

We had a wonderful Easter, pictures coming soon, and hope everyone had a great weekend and Easter as well...

...about a week and a half ago, we finally did some more cookie decorating that Emma had been asking, after seeing pictures of her decorating the Halloween cookies on my iPhone, to do it again ;)  So I was finally up for it, and we went shopping.  She didn't want already made cookies, and I wasn't doing my homemade ones, so we bought the Better Crocker mix, icing and she picked the sprinkles...
She could hardly wait for the cookies to bake (she did help mix though), but I knew what the girl wanted...it's all about the sprinkles...
And yes, that's one of her Halloween shirts.  I really need to hide seasonal clothes, because inevitably she picks those to wear ;)
In the end, I had one happy little Chickadee!
Will try again to link a video up here, but having no luck with Vimeo or Blogger right now...

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter...
 to you...
 and your family and friends...
As a follower of Christ, I rejoice in Jesus conquering death and that I too will once be with Him.  It is the life we must live here on earth that can leave me with little to rejoice about sometimes.  Until that time, I need constant reminders of the Joy that belongs to me as being a Child of God.  I for one, find it very hard to do and am by no means a saint, although Jesus has washed away my sins and I live in His constant and loving grace.  When I get overwhelmed, depressed, sad, the first thing I think of is not His grace and love.  The first thing I think of is what needs to go away from my life.  What is making my life more unbearable than it needs to be and remembering that my faith in Him will help me sort it through and weed out the unnecessaries.  What makes ME happy?  It is hard to give up the things you think are making you happy to learn that they were the reason for your unhappiness.  As I go along this life here with Jesus feeling so far away at times, one thing I always come back to...

More from the Beach

Emma sliding down the hole that Dennis dug...
just really loving playing in the sand...
and loving it some more...
Just love her little face in this one...
Only got in the kiddie pool for a little bit...she was all about the sand.  She moves so much and avoids looking at me and the camera that it's hard to meter off of her...so I was sooo thankful to get this shot and not be under or over exposed...that's my beautiful girl...
She loved her little monkey bathing suit we got her at Target before the trip...
And tried to get some details of the beach...so beautiful and inspiring, so glad I had my camera...

I did add texture to this photo, but you can still see how foggy it would get...
I thought this was funny...since I'm the one with the camera...I made footprints in the sand...I was actually there too ;)...Emma is off in the background...
Little chickadee surprised us.  She doesn't like anything loud.  But she loved going to LuLu's and listening to the...
band...when you ask her what was her favorite part of the trip, she says listening to the band...Go figure! BUT she'll say that it was a little loud and she had to go shop!
When I asked her if she wanted to get her hair wrapped...she pointed to the lady's tattoos and said that she wanted one of those!  So the lady was doing glitter tattoos, which Emma was so excited to get...and yes...she picked out the skull and cross bones...loving on that skeleton...
And I'll take what I can get...we were losing light really fast, Emma was beyond loopy, and I had a Mojito, so grabbed the nearest person to take our photo together...I really was there too ;)
Emma is ready to go back to the beach NOW as she says ;)
