Rio, Baking, 6 a.m. Wake Up Call, Ultrasound

The Scrapping the Music Anniversary Blog Hop has been postponed because of Irene.  I'll post when the new date is so you can have a chance to win a prize from one of the team member's blog.

We finally got to see RIO!  Emma and I loved the music and had downloaded it before the movie came out this past Easter, and we've all read the books at Barnes.  So we knew it would be okay for her to watch...the cockatoo being a little iffy...but she was okay with him...she never seemed scared.
We're getting ready for a family vacation and getting some things to help with the long ride...so since we loved the movie, we bought it this week at Target.  Emma said very loudly when we found the DVD...IT'S RIOOOOO!!!!
Chickadee has been getting up now as early as 6.  We are NOT morning people.  When I worked, I just did what I had to do, but I'm a night owl.  At least she's on a roll for getting up in time for school...

But the silliness is always around...I told her she looked like Minnie Mouse with the scoop on her nose, so she wanted me to take a picture...
Then she wanted me to take a picture of Minnie Mouse with the scoop...
We make a few runs to Menchies now, even more since school...kind of a nice little treat and something to do after school...
She loves her Aunts and Uncles...so we spelled Holly's name first, helping her...then she did it all by herself except needing help with the Y...the girl amazes us!
then she traced over Lisa's name...the S is a little tricky...
had to take a quick picture of the geese crossing as we were going to Menchies...too cute!
Lots of "baking" going on these days by chickadee.  She has raided our pantry of flour, sugar, cocoa, cornmeal, whatever she can find really...
Mixes it and wants to put it in the "real" oven...it's off so don't worry...sometimes though it has to go in the refrigerator first, she says...
The messes have been a lot...I really wonder why in the world we ever bought a kitchen set for her for Christmas.  We're working on talking her into letting us sell it IF she wants something else for Christmas which she has already put in her request ;)  will share that later...
her drawings have gotten even more detailed.  She's done legs and arms on her smiley faces, but this one has a hat now.  This one almost looks like a skeleton face or a bread face!
She has got us whipped...at least she let Dennis fall back to sleep a little the other morning...
And we baked some ready-made cookies...you would think she would help since she likes to bake.  But I think she just likes to mix.  But she did really good at helping eat them...
I thought Emma would really like this new crackle white fingernail polish.  But she wasn't quite sure about it.  I am definitely doing black then the white and orange with the white for Halloween.
Had the ultrasound today for the lump I felt under my arm.  The radiologist got to see me too, so that was good.  Strange though, because the doctor's office and the letter I received said they found a small spot.  But after the ultrasound and talking to the doctor, they didn't see anything.  All a little confusing, but at least it was checked out.  So I will just keep self-examining myself to make sure it doesn't change.

Because of my appointment, I couldn't pick Emma up from school and thankfully she did okay with that...but I still kept telling her that I will be back even though I won't be there to pick her up at school...so I left her this little message on her chalkboard and texted it to Dennis to show her...
...but she was sooo excited to see me when she and Dennis got back...she didn't want me to leave her sight...so sweet...

Layouts to Share; Ultrasound; STM Anniversary

I am not too good with "themed" layouts...mini albums come more natural to me, but not layouts.  So for Emma's birthday layout, I picked the "Have You Heard, Emma is 3" using the picture of her on the toy phone.  That helped to make it flow a little more for me.  I used mainly the "Mind the Gap" kit from Studio Calico with just a few chipboard pieces from "Lawn Party."
And a layout that I wanted to document this relationship that we all have with Paula and Hailey.  The journaling is hidden in the little envelope behind the photo.  Used "Mind the Gap" with the flower brads from the "Lawn Party" kit.  Have to say, the strips cut at the bottom like that are inspired from Jen Jockisch.  She has a PDF with instructions on how she did her layout (which her's is way better than how mine came out)...I did my own thing with it, but I love the collage look and quilt look to it as well.

One with just Emma pretending to take my picture with the toy camera...
One, that's all about the birthday girl opening her presents on the day of her birthday, the day before her party.  On all of the layouts, I used the Silhouette to cut circles, etc.  This one, I cut the balloon, and the folded flower too...I misted the ballon then put it back with a bright colored piece of pattern paper under it.
Ever since I did the Princess Ballet video with the song "Once Upon a Dream," I've had it in my head on and off...so I used the lyrics to the song for scrapping the two year anniversary of us becoming a family.  I used the Silhouette to cut out "Once Upon a Time," then put the patterned paper behind it.  And I used the special Chinese Stamp that we had handmade while we were in Guangzhou (our last stop before heading home).
Here's pictures of the stamps.  You pick out what Chinese zodiac you want, what you want the stamp to say...and they will carve it into the stamp for you.  I'm so glad we got these stamps.
We had one made with Emma's name in Chinese.  That one has a rat on it since she was born in the year of the rat.  Hard to tell the animals unless you are really close up.
Since it's done by hand...it takes about a day until ready, so have to order in time before you head back home...
And this one says Happy Family in Chinese with the dragon on it.  The dragon and the phoenix symbolize happy family.  I'd have to look it up, but the substance they give you in the round pot is unique...have to experiment with stamping several times and let it dry...

Rushing around before I have to pick up Emma.  I got my results of the mammogram...the lump is showing up, so next thing to do is go for the ultrasound.  That will be next Tuesday.  So hoping all is fine...

And check back on my blog on August 31st for a special blog hop in celebration of Scrapping the Music's (STM) 4 year anniversary.  Each member of the design team will be having a prize on her blog.  So check back on Wednesday, the 31st, for more details.

Princess Ballet Video, School Going Great

Finally got all of the video together to do this.  I love how pictures capture Emma's personality, but there's nothing like video...
To make the video bigger, just click on the four-headed area to the left of the word vimeo at the bottom of the video screen.

Princess Ballet June-July 2011 from Patricia Roebuck on Vimeo.

And school is still going great.  Each day, I've left a little sooner, and no problem.  Today, I left within just five minutes of getting there...and was a little worried.  Told the teacher to call me if they need too.  The teacher later told me she really didn't know why I thought they would be calling...because of how well she's doing.  But it's like night and day with her being at this new school.  She feel comfortable, and so it works for her.  She runs to me when I pick her up.  Today she was so excited, she had to bring me to each room and show me all of the sleeping bags (for the full-time students for nap time).  And then she  took me to the art room to get her artwork she had done.  She was just so excited.  Even played teacher tonight right before bedtime.

And more silliness right before bed time...I wanted to get a picture of her growing "Cars" collection, but she had other plans and ran at got "accessories."

It didn't take long for the teachers to realize she has quite a personality.  On the second day of school, I was doing some work with her before I left.  It was early reading work...doing the letter sounds...we were doing J.  So I was saying the J sound.  All of a sudden, as loud as she could, she belts out "Joy to the Word, the Lord (with a very New Orleans accent, Lawd) has come, let earth receive her King."  She's a mess...and at least she's comfortable and not afraid to let loose...

Hoping to find out my mammogram results as soon as I can.  The tech (which is a high school friend of mine) did great at getting under my arm.  So hope it is all well...

A Night Like This and More

I never planned for this goofy iPhone pic of me to EVER be seen by anyone (I look a little pig like HA!)...but...before I could delete it, chickadee saw it, loved it, and wanted me to take a picture of her doing the same thing...then she wanted Dennis to do the same thing.  It was originally just a pic I had texted to Dennis as he was probably on one of those errands where I tell him what we need and he has a hard time finding it, so I just texted the pic as a "love you, okay, thank you, bye bye."
So I took the goofy pics of all three of us and scrapped it to the next song up on Scrapping the Music.  I picked the word "believe" from this awesome song and singer Caro Emerald.  Had never heard her EVER...and could not stop playing the song over and over and over again...of course had to look up info about her.  She is Dutch...doesn't sound it, but just an amazing voice.  I downloaded it from iTunes right away...check her out, and come join us by scrapping something to this song.
And saw this over on the Sassafras Lass blog challenging you to use three different colors of their letter stickers.  Duh...why didn't I think of that?!  Many many more layouts using this new found love will be seen soon...  So this great idea got me to finally scrap some Mardi Gras pictures...  You had to use, I think 90% of Sassafras product...yikes...I had really gone through my stash of paper...but thankfully, had some of their new paper from some Studio Calico kits and, of course, had some flower Whimsies, stickers, and brads that could be used from my stash...a lot of fun...ended up being 100% Sass all except the orange polka dot paper and the spray mist...
Slowly starting to get some energy back...feel like my glands are the size of oranges...just really needed to rest...have been putting stuff in my Smash book (which I love), but no scrapping...finally last night, I got a burst of creativity and just enough energy and dived into these four layouts using mainly Paper Moon kit from Studio Calico, with a dabble of leftover embellishments from Lawn Party...
I had so much fun...I, for some reason, will print off several pics at a time that I "think" I might want to scrap, but it takes me awhile to get to them, and then I can't remember what my idea was to scrap about...so thankfully, they all came together last night...
I could've added so many more pics to this...but I kept with just these three...love the old fashion-ness of this...
And my last one...almost ditched this picture...but I thought, I remember taking it and Emma being so excited to pick out a book at the library...she actually crashed (fell asleep) right after I took the pic ;)
And saving the BEST for LAST...  Emma was in my scraproom with me this morning and I said okay, time to take pictures of these layouts...she quickly finished hers (glue is still wet) and said mines ready too ;)  I had to take a picture of hers first!  She made it for me she said!  And I think it's the best layout I've ever seen!!!  Emma started putting the gems on, but Dennis finished it for her, I think she got a little tired ;)
Emma goes to school tomorrow...so first full week, hoping it goes as well as it has.
And I go for a mammogram on Wednesday.  I have actually been a little out of sorts with worry.  I found a lump under my arm.  I really resisted looking on the Internet, but I finally did...all I can hope is that it's nothing but I think I was denying it was there...so would appreciate a few quick prayers that all will be just fine...
Hoping for a great week for everyone...

School Success

Lazy days of Summer are over...well, there's not much laziness that goes on these days with a little chickadee...but at least she can be lazy and carefree ;)
We tried to change the bedtime so that she could stay up later and enjoy the cooler weather...but she'd still get up about 7ish...with about 3 hours of more sleep needed...the loopiness wasn't worth it...
So going to bed at 7 (I know ungodly) with her falling asleep about 8 or 8:30...she'd at least get about 11 hours of sleep.  Now if she napped, that bedtime would be different.  But her lack of concentration is so bad when she is tired, it works for us...
and more importantly, it works for going to school...so she can do her best!
It's not raining outside...that's the Louisiana humidity...the kind of humidity that makes you sweat while standing still...so I don't take a lot of pictures outside when it's this bad...unless I have time to wait for my lens to stop fogging up...
Chickadee is a silly little thing...she says she was being the bull on the Cars movie with the ring in his nose...
Watch out for the bull!   She is also afraid of the bull (the big tractor) from the Cars movie...
Little chickadee becoming such a big girl...
She was so excited for school...she "made" something for the teachers?  She has two, but she just made one thing!  Her teacher asked if she wanted it on the art board or the refrigerator...Emma picked the fridge.  She was really so excited and pumped up about school...

We went into the sensory room and she was already ready to start working...so I grabbed a rug for her...and stayed with her about 30 minutes...then I told her I would run errands, and ALWAYS ALWAYS be back.  And when I get back, we will go get ice cream.
I didn't go all the way home...called the school to see how she was doing.  Great, she said...so I went home and had my phone close to me.  She got a little pouty they said with the circle time.  She didn't like the loud music ;)  Poor thing, I think she gets that from me...I'm a migraine sufferer and loud noises I don't like.  But I was so proud that she communicated that to the teachers and they told her they would move her away from the radio.

It was only about an hour since she had been at school since I called, and she had gone to the bathroom, washed her hands (the teacher said she did it by herself), and then went right back to doing work.  She did about 10 works just in the first hour.   I really love the Montessori teaching and so glad I found out about it.

And she is doing great with all of the kids.  It goes all the way to kindergarten and they are not separated...they work all together individually, but together...and she does great!

Today, before I left, we were doing some work together and I said, we'll have to ask the teacher what this is because I don't know...she got up, went through two rooms all the way to find the teacher to ask her.

So VERY proud of her.  Today after school we went to Barnes.  She got her sugar cookie.  But she has been pretty tired after and makes going out not so good.  So we'll see how she does and may change her to full time for 3 days so she can try to rest at school with all of the other kids...

But for now...hoping to just chill because I am under the weather and am trying to do as little as possible to try to rest ;)  Rest - no longer a verb done in our house...

School Starts Tomorrow

I feel like the summer has really just begun...and really it has since Summer is still officially Summer.
I think time is going by even faster now...
It's been too hot to do a whole lot outside, so besides swimming to cool off...we do lots of crafty type things...Emma loves making noodle art...we also have fun dying them (just use a baggie filled with about a capful or two of alcohol and some food coloring.  Add the noodles and squish them around...pour onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to dry)
Emma has asked for a guitar consistently lately...so I couldn't resist when I saw this at TJ Maxx...she loves it.  Dennis has the video...will try to get that up another time...she's a natural!
She's got my ankle/foot thingy that I wear when my foot hurts ;)  she wants to do everything like me...

And these pics are actually from about May...she doesn't do the dress up as much as I thought she would...so I had to sneak some pictures of her while on our bed watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on my computer...

She finally looks to see what I'm doing ;)

Going to pack her lunch for tomorrow...and wanted to make one of her favorites, pumpkin bread, to bring for her first day.  She is soooo excited about school  (thankfully)!
Thought I could share a quick video...but I never have luck uploading through blogger...maybe later...
Off to enjoy some swimming...
